Bridges 2011. Festival für Neue Musik in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Verein für Neue Musik Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e.V.

This New Music festival in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has literally built “bridges” over previous years: in 2009 international ambitions through cooperation with networked music academies in the Baltic and the Association of Baltic Academies of Music were extended. In 2010 the festival then worked closely with the Center for Banned Music in Rostock’s music and theater academy Hochschule für Musik und Theater. Founded in 2008 the center has taken on the task of keeping the memory and fate of persecuted and murdered musicians alive. With the support of the EvS Music Foundation Brücken 2011 will feature Wolfgang Rihm as composer in residence. The composer will be honored by several concerts – amongst others featuring Berlin’s Morgenstern-Trio and Freiburg’s ensemble recherche. The program will be extended and supplemented by numerous concerts as well as lectures and discussions. Held on the fringe of the festival will be the 7th Music Theory Symposium by Rostock’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater which will focalize Rihm’s work.
