“Liszt-Visionen” – Seven Composition Commissions

„pèlerinages“ Kunstfest Weimar

Franz Liszt has always been the “patron saint” of the “pèlerinages” Kunstfest Weimar: The composer and piano virtuoso not only influenced musical life in Weimar in the 19th century, the artistic director of the Kunstfest Nike Wagner is also his great grand-daughter. To mark the 200th anniversary of his birthday in 2011 the cosmopolite who lived and worked in seven different countries is to be honored in a very special way. Very much in tune with Liszt’s ideas about promoting his contemporaries, composers from just those seven countries – Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Austria and Russia – are to be commissioned to write pieces with a reference of their own choice to Liszt. These, including the three commissions issued by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation to Steffen Schleiermacher, Stefano Gervasoni and Roland Moser, are to be juxtaposed by the Ensemble Avantgarde with Liszt’s works under the heading Liszt-Visionen at a Long Liszt Night and performed for the first time at a concert featuring the Munich Chamber Orchestra.
