Dissonance 116: Performing New Music?

Schweizerischer Tonkünstlerverein Traditionally in the writing of music history there is an imbalance between the history of composition and performance, to the detriment of the latter. In the academic, philology-oriented study of musicology methods for research into musical performance are still under-developed. Edition 116 of dissonance with the support of the EvS Music Foundation provides food for thought for an in-depth, productive, strongly practice-oriented musicological exploration of performance practice of New Music (historic and contemporary). Focal points here question how the history of performance practice should be designed, what kinds of performance exist (ed) beyond aesthetic reproduction-oriented performers and indeed will exist and who is it that writes New Music and thereby also its history.
