Review of the Correspondence of Ernst Krenek

Ernst Krenek Institute, Krems, Austria

The Ernst Krenek Institute in Krems, Austria, is currently working through the estate of the Austrian composer Ernst Krenek. In addition to numerous musical and literary manuscripts there is a large body of Krenek’s correspondence here that requires thorough recording, cataloguing and indexing. Performing this work will shed light on and make accessible Krenek’s entire social setting and his life spanning almost a century (1900 – 1991). Figures like Igor Stravinsky, Thomas Mann, Joseph Roth, Alma Mahler-Werfel and Oskar Kokoschka were amongst Krenek’s contacts. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation will be funding a student assistant at the Ernst Krenek Institute for a period of three years.
