Manila Composers Lab 2012

Manila Composers Lab, Philippines

The Manila Composers Lab (MCL) offers yearly laboratory sessions where invited young composers from Southeast Asia try out sketches and musical ideas with renowned performers under the guidance of composers and professors. Founded in 2008, the MCL is a non-profit organization of young composers dedicated to the development of a new music culture in Southeast Asia. The MCL gives much emphasis on process of creation and exploration, so that the final product may either be completed works, or sketches that springboard towards more developed pieces in the near future.
Manila Composers Lab 2012 will be another unique offering for invited young composers in the Philippines and elsewhere Southeast Asia. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation supports this two-week event that will feature German composer Bernd Asmus of the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart and the German trio Chambre d'ecoute. Lectures on techniques in New Music from the main resource person, Bernd Asmus will be supplemented by lecture demonstrations and theoretical discussions with the trio.
