Composition Commission issued to Peter Eötvös

Mädchenchor Hannover, Germany

The girls’ choir Mädchenchor Hannover is considered as one of the best youth choirs of its kind in Germany. It is a multiple prize-winner of numerous national and international competitions, has countless CD recordings under its belt and makes guest appearances every year on concert tours as a cultural ambassador for Germany in general and for Lower Saxony and Hanover in particular.
Regular composition commissions extend the repertoire not just of the Mädchenchor Hannover but also of the girls’ choir genre worldwide. No other choir can boast such depth and intense exploration of contemporary choral works.
At the festival concert marking the 60th anniversary of the girls’ choir a varied program from its large repertoire is to be presented – including both classical works as well as two premieres, thereby documenting yet again the joy young people take in New Music. With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation Peter Eötvös will compose a piece of work for Mädchenchor Hannover to mark the occasion.
