Composition Commissions issued to Martin Grütter and Filip Caranica

Schwelbrandorchester, Berlin, Germany

Founded in Berlin in 2010 the Schwelbrandorchester wishes to bridge the cultural gap between different audiences through a comprehensive exchange on all levels. The aim is to bring artists, musicians and audiences with very different musical socialization cultures into dialogue and promote cooperation and shared concert experiences. Consisting of 12 young Berlin musicians from very different musical backgrounds the formation dedicates itself to exchange between different music scenes, genres and audiences. The musical focus of the Schwelbrand concert series lies on music that has arisen in the context of New Music – but it is equally influenced by styles like pop, noise, heavy metal, free jazz or electro. On the one hand the music has great vehemence and is energy-charged while on the other it boasts great structural complexity meaning it appeals to a wide-ranging audience.
With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation composition commissions have been issued to Martin Grütter and Filip Caranica for Schwelbrand 2 which is to be held in the Fall of 2014.

Premiere: Novembre 4, 2014
Sophiensaele, Sophienstraße 18, 10178 Berlin
