Composition commissions issued to Yildirim, Buss, Pakhota, Andovska and Kaleli for the Convergence New Music Center Ensemble

pre-art, Zurich, Switzerland

Since 2001 the cultural exchange organization pre-art has operated in the Caucuses. After
several projects – most recently a three-day festival with courses, an orchestra and two chamber music concerts in April 2010 – an ensemble was founded in 2011 together with their long-standing partners in Yerevan and Tbilisi. This ensemble features the best musicians from the region and aims to carry out two projects per year. To complement this courses, workshops and master classes are to be held aimed at young and aspiring composers and musicians.

At the focus of the events in February and October 2012 is the 6th pre-art Competition for Young Composers organized in 2011 with the musicians of the Convergence New Music Ensemble: the prizewinning works in the competition will be selected in February and the composers will be invited to Tbilisi. Held alongside this will be improvisation, composition and percussion courses as well as workshops and concerts. In October the Convergence New Music Ensemble will play five of the compositions commissioned by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation in three concerts in Tbilisi, Yerevan and Istanbul. These compositions will be works by the young composers Onur Yildirim (Turkey), Ivan Pakhota (Ukraine), Santa Buss (Latvia), Darija Andovska (Macedonia) and Emre Sihan Kaleli (Turkey).
