Composer Portraits Zorn, Paredes, Aperghis

Miller Theatre at Columbia University, New York, USA

With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, Miller Theatre realizes three full-evening showcases of a single composers work, featuring John Zorn, Hilda Paredes, and Georges Aperghis. Highlights of this year’s “Composer Portraits”, an annual contemporary music series at Miller Theatre in New York will include: five John Zorn world premieres including a Miller-commissioned solo violin work for Jennifer Koh; the world premiere of a Miller-commissioned work by Hilda Paredes performed by Ensemble Signal; and the world premiere of a Georges Aperghis work co-commissioned by Miller and the International Contemporary Ensemble, conducted by Ludovic Morlot. The residency of each composer includes close work with the musicians and will culminate in the Portrait concert, where the featured composer will also participate in an onstage discussion about his or her work. As a part of Columbia University, the Miller Theatre aims not only to present important new music works but also to increase the public’s understanding of these works.
