Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Russia

In Russia 2012 is declared as Germany Year. The center for contemporary music at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory will be holding a concert cycle and festival in the 2012–2013 season to be devoted to contemporary German music. With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation 12 concerts of the Studio for New Music in Moscow will be held in the regions of Russia alongside other concerts. Each of the concert programs will include works by contemporary German and Russian composers. Here each concert is dedicated to a particular theme so as to not merely present to the Russian audience an anthology of music of the last 50 years but rather showcase its most important developments and directions in the two countries and the way these have influenced and contrasted each other.

In this way the Russian audience will be familiarized with the development of German and Russian contemporary music and shown how they overlap and contrast with each other. The idea is to impart to the audience an understanding of music as a social phenomenon that reflects the condition and development of society. To accompany the festival a Russian compilation will also be published featuring translated essays by German composers.
