2011/2012 Concert Season

Ensemble Phoenix Basel, Switzerland

The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting Ensemble Phoenix in its 2011/2012 concert season. Here in six programs current contemporary music from Switzerland and abroad as well as works of the modern classics will be presented and contrasted. The latter includes an almost five-hour work by Morton Feldman. The programs also feature Gérard Grisey’s last work juxtaposed by works by Enno Poppe, an evening with the music of Spanish composers, a Swiss evening and, as the sixth highlight, a closely collaborated program featuring two selected composers with mutual and equal influence between composer and ensemble. An innovative conceptual method of working and work format, this enables the genesis of new and new-style music and art forms – an approach already very successfully deployed by Ensemble Phoenix in the past. The season contains a total of eight composition commissions. Since promoting the up-and-coming generation is a matter close to the ensemble’s heart half of these commissions go to young Swiss composers.
