Cycle Benedict Mason

Festival d’Automne à Paris, France

Since the Seventies, the Paris Autumn Festival presents monographic programs that focus on one contemporary composer. Supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, this year’s festival will be featuring Benedict Mason’s work in five concerts. Works of the British composer, born in 1954, are rarely performed and very little known in France. Thus, the festival intends to emphasize the singular nature of Mason’s artistic production and to highlight the different artistic disciplines that shape his work: cinema, image, space, light, and electronics.

The first two concerts will be monographic and present works like “Seventh”, performed by Rolf Hind and David Alberman, or “Hinterstoisser Traverse” performed by Ensemble Musikfabrik. The third and fourth concert will present pieces by Mason in perspective with works by other composers like Karlheinz Stockhausen or Iannis Xenakis. Among others, they will be performed by Neue Vocalsolisten, Arditti Quartet, and Ensemble Intercontemporain. The fifth concert is based on Mason’s typology of venues and reflects the parameters of the hall and its surroundings that determine the sound experience. For the realization of “Concert Hall Series” professional musicians will perform together with young students from the conservatory.
