Hamburger Ostertöne 2012

HamburgMusik gGmbH - Elbphilharmonie Hamburg und Laeiszhalle, Germany

The Hamburger Ostertöne festival was founded in 2006 by Hamburg’s Principal Musical Director and Director General Simone Young to follow on from the “Hamburger Musikfest” initiated by Ingo Metzmacher. Under the heading “Brahms and the Modern Age” the festival has set itself the task of following a thread through the age of Late Romanticism (featuring the work of Johannes Brahms) and the music of the 20th century through to the music of the present day. By combining known works and familiar musical language with current works, whose reception makes particular demands of the audience, the festival has plotted a path over the past few years appealing to wide audiences.
After program constellations like Brahms-Kurtág-Ligeti (2007) and Brahms-Messiaen-Grisey (2008) and Composers-in-Residence like Mark Andre (2010) and José María Sánchez-Verdú (2011), composer Isabel Mundry will be at the focus of the 2012 program when she will be invited to Hamburger Ostertöne as Composer-in-Residence. In five of a total of seven events a selection of her more recent chamber and orchestra music as well as early Lieder will be performed. For the first time now with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation the festival will also be commissioning the Composer-in-Residence with a new work for Ensemble Resonanz.
