Bernd Alois Zimmermann (1918–1970): Regards sur l’œuvre du compositeur aujourd’hui

University of Strasbourg, France

In October 2010, with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the University of Strasbourg organized an international symposium on Bernd Alois Zimmermann (1918–1970) under the academic guidance of Pierre Michel (University of Strasbourg), Heribert Henrich (Akademie der Künste Berlin) and Philippe Albèra (Editions Contrechamps Genève). The great composer is still relatively unknown in France. The symposium featuring outstanding musicologists, composers and musicians helped change this situation. The bi-lingual colloquium was recorded and published on the Internet. Its results are now to be published by the Contrechamps publishing house – once again with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation – as a French-language publication, thereby filling a gap in French musicology and culture.
