Schönheit als Verweigerung von Vertrautem

Interdisciplinary Forum “thinkers’ corner”, Munich, Germany

Designed in 2002 as an interdisciplinary forum as a means to understanding the modern age “thinkers’ corner – die Moderne verstehen” set itself the task of organizing a lecture each semester on the shaping of modern society. Composer Helmut Lachenmann is to help continue this reflection on the conditions of modern artistic creation within the question as to what constitutes the key value of art: beauty, in the Modern Age. Scarcely no contemporary composer has explored this issue as intensively as he has – either in theory or in practice. With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation in 2012 Lachenmann will be giving a lecture in the auditorium of the Munich School of Philosophy on the topic of “Beauty as a Rejection of the Familiar”. Here he will analyze his piece “Got lost” using score excerpts. Yukiko Sugawara, piano, and Yuko Kakuta, voice, will then perform “Got lost”.

June 15th 2012
Auditorium at the Hochschule für Philosophie, Munich
