Big Bang – Adventurous Music for Children – European Festival

KinderKinder e.V., Hamburg, Germany

Big Bang is a European project initiated by Belgium’s Zonzo Compagnie along with international and Hamburg partners who together produce and perform non-commercial contemporary music for children. At various European event venues they give children the opportunity to experience outstanding music and to become musically active themselves.

2017 sees the German festival being held for the third time now at Hamburg’s Kampnagelfabrik venue. Indeed the event is becoming a highpoint on the Hamburg music scene and is once again receiving the support of the EvS Music Foundation.

In addition to the Big Bang network’s own productions professional European productions are invited – in total there will be 10 productions and 24 shows, installations as well as activities held outside and backstage. Forming a part of the festival is a project featuring young refugees, mainly from Iran and Afghanistan. The core target group of the festival is children between 2 and 10 years of age.

The aim of the project is to generate enthusiasm among Hamburg children –attending the festival with their families, school class or playgroup – for New Music and sounds beyond the mainstream. The highest artistic quality and a staging that offers children the optimum initial access to the music are top priorities here.
