The organization pre-art was called into existence in the year 2000 by Boris Previšic and Matthias Arter with the aim of promoting sustainable cultural exchange for young people in the countries of South-Eastern Europe. Until today this includes help with acquiring music notes and revising and acquiring instruments and the like, all made possible thanks to the pre-art aid program based on private contributions and donations.

The pre-art soloists arose as a tour ensemble that made its first performances in 2001 in Tbilisi (Georgia). They were “Ensemble in Residence” at various contemporary music festivals in Tbilisi and were the partner ensemble of a total of five pre-art competitions for young composers. The ensemble presented the results of these competitions not only throughout South-Eastern Europe but also always in Switzerland, for instance on the occasion of various editions of Culturescapes (Basel) or at the 2015 edition of the New Music festival Tage für Neue Musik Zürich. In 2016 the pre-art soloists were awarded the Werkjahr Interpretation by the City of Zürich, a sabbatical year for interpretation.

The pre-art soloists took the 10^th edition of the pre-art Competition for Young Composers as an opportunity to commission a work by the renowned composer with the support of the EvS Music Foundation aimed at adding further weight to this anniversary tour.
