kultivieren & verwildern (cultivating and overgrowing): pyramidale Festival 2017

Neue Musik plus e.V., Berlin, Germany

Founded in 2002 the focus of the pyramidale festival lies on premieres and repeat performances of current works from present-day music culture. One day of the festival in 2017 is to be hosted on the site of the International Garden Show held this year in Berlin Marzahn-Hellersdorf. Indeed this is what provided the inspiration for the“kultivieren & verwildern”(cultivating and overgrowing) theme. A central feature of the program is a musical theater project. Four composers will explore the overarching theme “Nature-Mankind-Art” and develop their own perspectives also especially in the exploration of nature within (or indeed in spite of) big city life. 4 composers were selected who are able to adopt very differing perspectives due to their different backgrounds and who can approach the theme of this festival from different cultural socialisations: Kaj Duncan David (Denmark/Great Britain), Annesley Black (Canada), Samir Odeh-Tamimi (Israel/Palestine) and Susanne Stelzenbach (Germany). Supported by the EvS Music Foundation the project features Berlin’s ensemble mosaik, supplemented by singers/speakers as well as video artists. Very experienced in the field of musical theater the Berlin director Matthias Rebstock will stage the individual works and link these into a complete performance.
