Things Keep Their Secrets: Salvatore Sciarrino and Isabel Mundry

Monday Evening Concerts, Los Angeles, USA

The Monday Evening Concerts (MEC) have a long tradition of combining the contemporary with works of past generations. When programming this concert supported by the EvS Music Foundation to feature works by Salvatore Sciarrino and Isabel Mundry the MEC’s artistic director Jonathan Hepfner drew inspiration from a concert held in the 50s. Back then the MEC brought together works by the Renaissance composer Guillaume Dufay with those of the then 30 year old Luigi Nono. The idea for this concert is brought right up to the present day by Hepfner with a slight twist: Sciarrino, a contemporary and compatriot of Nono, is once again combined with Dufay – but this time not directly but with Isabel Mundry’s Dufay Bearbeitungen taking on their very own different form based on Dufay’s work.
