Composition Commission issued to David Philip Hefti Die Schneekönigin. (The Snow Queen) Composition for a Staged Family Concert

Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich, Switzerland

To mark the 150th anniversary of the Tonhalle Orchestra in 2018 Zürich Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich has commissioned Swiss composer David Philip Hefti to set to music Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Snow Queen for a large symphony orchestra line-up. Librettist Andreas Schäfer’s adaptation will give the composer more scope. The aim here is to present the role of the Snow Queen played by soprano Mojca Erdmann in a multi-layered portrayal and enhance its status. With the composition commission issued to David Philip Hefti and supported by the EvS Music Foundation the orchestra anniversary is among other things also to be used to extend the series of family concerts to include a new and contemporary repertoire and bring contemporary music closer to children aged six to twelve. After the premiere the composition is to be made available to other venues and orchestras.
