George Benjamin Focus – Written on Skin

For several years now George Benjamin has been a regular guest at the Holland Festival – as a performer, composer and conductor. 2018 will see his long-awaited opera Lessons in Love and Violence being premiered in May at London’s Royal Opera House and performed among others at the Holland Festival. The organizers have therefore taken this opportunity to present multi-talented Benjamin in a focus feature. Part of this focus will be the performance of Written on Skin supported by the EvS Music Foundation. The Guardian described the opera as “one of the defining works of the 21st century”. The staging is based on the opera’s Katie Mitchell premiere in 2012. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra that already played under Benjamin’s baton in 2012 will also perform here again – this time conducted by Lawrence Renes.
