Composition Commission issued to Katharina Rosenberger

The [Switch~ Ensemble], Brooklyn, USA

2018, the [Switch~ Ensemble] has commissioned Katharina Rosenberger for a substantial new work with their core instrumentation, including vocalizing instrumentalists (flute, clarinet, violin, violoncello, piano, and percussion), electronics, and video multimedia.
Rosenberger says about the piece that it will be an „investigation of new relationships between the body, physical gesture, and sound.“
An essential aspect of this project will be the close collaboration between Rosenberger and artistic director/technician Jason Thorpe Buchanan to develop the real-time audio and video processing environment.
The [Switch~ Ensemble] will present this work on a tour from December 2019 to March 2020, with three stops. They will join Rosenberger in San Diego to workshop, rehearse, and premiere the piece over a period of five days in December 2019. Then, after a three months period—allowing time for revisions—the ensemble will reconvene in Rochester, NY for a second week of rehearsals to prepare for the final two performances. In Rochester, they will be presented on the Image/Sound Festival, an interdisciplinary forum for experimental video media, sound design, and music curated by composer Oliver Schneller. Then, they will travel to New York to perform the piece at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music.
