Five Composition Commissions

Prague Spring Festival, Czech Republic

Contemporary classical music is an integral part of the Prague Spring Festival repertoire. Prague Spring is regularly commissioning composers and thus providing opportunities for collaboration between composers and outstanding musicians. Martin Hybler and Jaroslav Pelikán (1970) will write pieces for oboe and flute, respectively, that will be premiered as part of the Prague Spring International Music Competition. Šimon Voseček will write a piece that will be premiered by the Prague Philharmonia with Ben Glasberg conducting. Jakub Rataj will write a new piece for Theremin, piano and string quartet, in an effort to promote the Theremin among the Czech audience and to follow up the famous piece by Bohuslav Martinů written for this exceptional instrument. The concert features Carolina Eyck, highly regarded Theremin player. Jana Vöröšová will write a piece for saxophone quartet that will be premiered by the Bohemia Saxophone Quartet. Finally, the Ensemble Intercontemporain will premier a piece by Miroslav Srnka in the Czech Republic.
