Composition Commission issued to Bnaya Halperin-Kaddari | Rays of Disarray

RADAR Ensemble, Hamburg, Germany

With this age marked by the Corona crisis and a new flood of alternative online offerings, how can music respond flexibly to the constraints these times impose on musicians and audiences and re-create a sense of shared space and proximity for artists and audiences?

A possible answer to these questions is sought by the RADAR Ensemble in collaboration with the young Israeli composer Bnaya Halperin-Kaddari and the Hamburg light artist Katrin Bethge. Halperin-Kaddari works on the borderline between notated and improvised, acoustic and electronic music, concert and installation, consciously incorporating space into his works. This results in soundscapes that combine the gesture of spontaneous improvisation with well-conceived dramaturgical progressions. For the project Rays of Disarray he conceives an evening-length concert installation with new ideas for arrangement and musical interaction, which he then develops together with the musicians of the RADAR Ensemble in the rehearsal process, adapting it to the space and thus inviting the audience to take on different perspectives. The composition commission is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
