Composition Commission issued to Brice Pauset

Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, Germany

As part of the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik 2021, a portrait of Brice Pauset is planned with three concerts. His new works will run through the festival program like a unifying thread. At the center is the new full-length composition Vertigo for ensemble, video and electronics, premiered by Klangforum Wien and Ircam Paris under the baton of Titus Engel and made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

Alfred Hitchcock's 1958 film of the same name is the reference point for this project. For Pauset, it is "the quintessence of what cinema owes to psychoanalysis." He particularly follows the original in formal details. Important to him are "the mock plot, the Pygmalion effect, the obsessive repetition, the regressive fascination of the legend and the fall." Lasting about 60 minutes, the work is arranged in two movements analogous to the film: "While Hitchcock starts to solve the mystery thirty minutes before the end of his film," in Pauset's work the final third of the composition "consists of a self-analytical, oversized coda."

Aufgrund der momentanen Situation und den damit einhergehenden Auflagen kann es zu kurzfristigen Änderungen kommen. Daher informieren Sie sich für aktuelle Informationen zum Projekt bitte unter wittenertage.de
