ARD International Music Competition, Munich, Germany

The ARD International Music Competition is an annual event held in Munich each September in four alternating categories. Since 2001, four commission compositions have been created each year that are premiered by the candidates in the semifinals. The best premiere performance is awarded a special prize in each instrument category. The brief to musicians is to demonstrate and make audible on their instruments their approach to contemporary composition / writing practices and unfamiliar sound worlds within the specified timeframe. For 2021, the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is facilitating the four composition commissions issued to Lisa Streich (violin), Britta Byström (horn), Isabel Mundry (voice) and Vassos Nicolaou (piano duo).
