Composition Commissions issued to Santa Bušs and Vykintas Baltakas

Klangbrücke, Munich, Germany

On March 11, 1990, Lithuania became the first Soviet state to declare independence. Estonia and Latvia followed shortly thereafter. Thirty years on, we still know surprisingly little about the Baltic States, their history, their culture, their people. Few of us are aware that these are three very different peoples, some with completely different languages.

Reason enough to dig a little deeper: the Munich ensemble der/gelbe/klang takes an intense look at the Baltic States in a concert evening. Three generations of Baltic composers feature in the line-up: Santa Bušs (Latvia), Vykintas Baltakas (Lithuania) and Erkki-Sven Tüür (Estonia). The premieres by Bušs and Baltakas are made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and will be interspersed with conversation about their music and life as artists in their home countries.

Due to current situation there might be changes at short notice. For most recent information please visit dergelbeklang.de
