Elżbieta Sikora – Remember

Association Les Métaboles, Colmar, France

The Polish-French pioneer of electro-acoustic music Elżbieta Sikora refers in her new composition to Luigi Nono's Quando Stanno Morendo. Diario Polacco no.2. Both works are responses to political violence and injustice: Luigi Nono wrote his composition in response to the introduction of martial law and the repression of the Solidarność workers' union in Poland in 1981. Forty years on, Elżbieta Sikora writes about her new work: "Remember is my composition dedicated to the victims of concentration camps and all kinds of violence." The starting point is a text layer based on the memories of prisoners and victims of the concentration and extermination camp in Majdanek (Lublin, Poland). The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is making the concert project possible.
