3rd Composition Workshop

Arnold Schönberg Center, Vienna, Austria

"As a teacher I pursue my own plans, a new method of my own, and it has to go out into the world. [...] That is why I have based my teaching courses, which I call 'Seminar for Composition', on a completely new, free system." As a composer and composition teacher Arnold Schönberg was an influential figure in the first half of the 20th century.
For the third time now, the Composition Workshop at the Arnold Schönberg Center, in collaboration with Helmut Schmidinger, composer and guest professor of composition pedagogy at Graz University of the Arts, will be extending an invitation to six young composers between the ages of 12 and 18 to come to Vienna.
In 2019/2020 the 3rd Composition Workshop is dedicated to the classical string quartet line-up.
The young composers will encounter the work of Arnold Schönberg in conversations and guided exhibition tours and receive tuition in small groups. They will intensively work and rehearse with musicians and, as a concluding highlight, perform their string quartets at a public concert on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at 11.00 am. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the 3rd Composition Workshop at the Arnold Schönberg Center.
