IDEA International Divertimento Ensemble Academy – Support of Young Musicians

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Divertimento Ensemble, 2017 saw the setting up of IDEA (The International Divertimento Ensemble Academy), the first academy in Italy to dedicate itself to contemporary music and coordinate the activities of the Divertimento Ensemble for young musicians. The academy is held under the artistic direction of Sandro Gorli and is supported by the EvS Music Foundation. In addition to including young musicians from Europe the different programs also have the specific aim of reaching budding musicians from Italy who, for lack of other opportunities, would only be able go and train abroad. IDEA is aimed at increasingly expanding the spectrum of opportunities and creating an independent program – alongside the other activities of the Divertimento Ensemble for the promotion of contemporary music during the Rondò season in Milan. In 2018/2019 the program features many workshops and master classes for young instrumentalists, composers and conductors as well as competitions for young composers. In 2018 the Composer in Residence is Vittorio Montalti and in this context he is given the opportunity to also be included in the ensemble’s Rondò program enabling him to reach a wider audience.
