The 2017/2018 season sees the Molinari Quartet celebrate its 20th anniversary. To mark this occasion the Orchestre Métropolitain and the Molinari Quartet will be issuing, with the support of the EvS Music Foundation, a composition commission to Samy Moussa who will be writing a concerto for string quartet and orchestra. Samy Moussa was the 2013 winner of the EvS Music Foundation Composer’s Prize and has been awarded the 2017 Hindemith Prize. 32 years of age the composer comes from Montreal where he also studied. He has already received five composition commissions from the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and in 2015 he won the Prix Opus des Conseil Québécois de la Musique. From Pierre Boulez he received a composition commission for the Lucerne Festival. After already writing a string quartet for the Arditti Quartet Samy Moussa will now write his first concerto – for string quartet and symphony orchestra.
