Composition Commission issued to Sarah Nemtsov

Oper Halle, Halle, Germany

The change of director at Oper Halle in Summer 2016 will in future see regular premieres of works of musical theater being held at the opera house. Each season one composition commission for the opera will be written dealing with today’s pressing social, political and aesthetic issues, thereby picking up on a tradition of social relevance that was self-evident for many of the 19th and early 20th century composers still known and loved today. As part of the project a composition commission has been issued to Sarah Nemtsov with the support of the EvS Music Foundation. German composer Nemtsov, whose works are performed at renowned international festivals, will be composing a piece of musical theater entitled "Gräben der Freude" for six vocal soloists, three actors and medium-sized orchestra that will be premiered in the 2016/17 season in a staging by director Florian Lutz. The libretto will come care of Halle-born and multiple award-winning dramatist Dirk Laucke.
