Composition Commissions issued to Ernst Helmuth Flammer and Jörg Birkenkötter

The elole piano trio is issuing two composition commissions to Ernst Helmuth Flammer and Jörg Birkenkötter that will be supported by the EvS Music Foundation and premiered in 2017. In search of interesting composers beyond the mainstream trio members were made aware of the two composers via the cellist of the ensemble who has already collaborated with them on many occasions. Just as some of his other works in the past – Flammer’s composition will emphatically explore the phenomenon of time and its both philosophical and anthropological context. Jörg Birkenkötter’s very special relationship with tradition in view of the piano trio’s classic line-up in his work will ring out just as will considerations on issues related to compositional time management. After 15 years playing together including 50 premieres the members of the elole e.V. piano trio have shown that interesting pieces either entirely circumvent tradition or focus on it in a decided manner in order to then distance themselves from it again.
