Composition Commissions issued to Song, Pelisch, Serrano, Koumará

Ensemble Platypus has been active on the international contemporary music scene for almost ten years now. The variety of avenues, approaches and ideas is as dear to its members as is meeting the constant challenges that new and unexpected compositional considerations, intentions and projects bring with them. This year the ensemble will be issuing several composition commissions four of which will receive the support of the EvS Music Foundation. These pieces will be written by Sang Song, Valentín Pelisch, José Manuel Serrano and Georgia Koumará and will be premiered as part of the official debut concert of the ensemble in the regular program of Vienna’s Konzerthaus. Here central themes of the present day are to be treated and notions like origin, center of vital interests and belonging and identity will be questioned.
