Composition Commissions issued to Zaid Jabry and Oscar Bianchi

EECMS, Kiel, Germany

The aim of the German-based society EECMS is to establish an arena for contemporary music in Egypt and, at the same time, give composers on the Arab cultural scene the opportunity to present their works at home and abroad. Amongst other things, the EECMS organizes a small concert series twice yearly in Alexandria and Cairo focalizing a theme in contemporary music. For the series in spring 2015 the EECMS will be issuing two composition commissions, one to a European and one to an Arab composer: the Italy and Switzerland-based composer Oscar Bianchi and the Syrian composer Zaid Jabri. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the composition commissions. Both works are to be written for a roughly ten-person ensemble and one Arabian lute player and are to be about 12 minutes long.
