Six Concertos Genevois

Ensemble Contrechamps,

The Six Concertos Genevois that the Contrechamps ensemble is to commission on its 40th birthday reflect both the identity of the grouping and its city: on the one hand, to highlight the different perspectives of a discourse (the name “Contrechamps” picks up on the filmic shot/reverse shot technique) and, on the other, as the place of international debate, as has been the case in Geneva for hundreds of years now. The form of the concert is ideal for this discourse.
In line with the six official languages of the UN (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian and Chinese), whose organizations are largely located in Geneva, six composers and soloists from the corresponding cultural regions are enlisted here. A special program will be designed for each of the Six Concertos Genevois, also focusing on each cultural region. For instance, the Anglophone world will be represented by the Australian composer Liza Lim. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the composition commission issued to Lim. The six Geneva concertos will be accompanied in musicological terms by three editions of the Contrechamps book series
