Composition Commission to Chaya Czernowin and Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf

To mark its tenth season the New York-based chamber music ensemble loadbang (trumpet, trombone, bass clarinet and baritone) will be elaborating new works by Chaya Czernowin and Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf. The composers Czernowin and Mahnkopf, whose composition commissions are being supported by the EvS Music Foundation, will relay the new pieces to the loadbang ensemble initially in December 2018 so that the rehearsal phase can follow. Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf is planning the composition of the work “432 Park Avenue. Hommage à NYC” based on the New York skyscraper of the same name that fascinates him in such varied ways. Chaya Czernowin, on the other hand, will work on a composition (“Not yet titled”) precisely adapted to the special instrumentation of the loadbang ensemble with special inclusion of baritone Jeffrey Gavett. This gives the ensemble the opportunity to add older European artists to its existing repertoire of young American composers. The ensemble will present the works as part of a premiere in New York City in May 2019.  After subsequent concerts the compositions will also be presented internationally by the ensemble.
