Composition Commission issued to Juan Pablo Carreño: A Mass for Reconciliation with the Self

Nova et Vetera and Orchestre Philharmonique de Medellín, Bogotá, Colombia

The agency Nova et Vetera and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Medellín, Bogotá, Colombia, commissioned Juan Pablo Carreño to write a mass for large orchestra, organ, electric guitar, mixed choir, choir of twelve bass-baritone voices and four soloists (soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor and bass-baritone). As a tribute to the memory of the victims of the violence in Colombia, this sacred work entitled A Mass for Reconciliation with the Self revolves around a dialog between a text by St. Francis of Assisi and some testimonies of victims of the recent violence in Colombia, a dialog juxtaposed by some texts by two of the greatest Colombian thinkers of the 20th century: the writer Fernando González-Ochoa and the philosopher Nicolás Gómez Dávila.
