Composition Commission issued to Kinan Azmeh

Theater Osnabrück, Germany

Kinan Azmeh has been working as a composer and soloist for 20 years now. Theater Osnabrück already commissioned him with a composition back in 2013, and the resulting Ibn Arabi Suite was premiered at a symphony concert in June 2013 featuring the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra. A later recording with the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin was awarded the Opus Klassik in 2019.

After numerous compositions for solo instruments, chamber music ensembles, orchestra, film and theater music, Kinan Azmeh will for the first time now write a music theater work for large orchestra, choir, soloists and actors entitled days to come. At the focus here is the examination of the history of his home country Syria. 14 Syrian poets will contribute texts to the work, many of them now living in exile, some still in Syria. The result is a multi-perspective view of the cultural, social and political events of the past few years. The commission has been made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

Due to the current situation and associated regulations, there may be changes at short notice. For the latest information on the project please therefore check theater-osnabrueck.de
