Composition Commissions issued to Ricardo Eizirik, Matthias Krüger and Anda Kryeziu

ensemble recherche, Freiburg, Germany

We are currently finding out how essential the social practice of performance is for music. What we miss is that opportunity to play together, perform in front of an audience and explore the “toys” that are our instruments. In several creative work phases of the Toy Laboratory project the playing of instruments is therefore to be at the forefront.

The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is facilitating for ensemble recherche the composition commissions issued to Ricardo Eizirik, Matthias Krüger and Anda Kryeziu who work with homemade instruments or everyday items taking a playful approach to composition. To take a closer look at the nature of the playing and the interaction with these toys over the course of the project visits will be paid to individuals who play all day: children. In workshops they will be asked: “How does playing work?”
