Homage to Stravinsky – Commission to Anders Hillborg

The London Philharmonic Orchestra, Great Britain

The London Philharmonic Orchestra is commissioning Swedish composer Anders Hillborg to write a work, Homage to Stravinsky. The world premiere will be at London's Royal Festival Hall on Saturday 21 April 2018 with LPO Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski. The performance falls at the midpoint of the Orchestra's year-long Stravinsky celebration Changing Faces: Stravinsky's Journey, which is a chronological survey of all of Stravinsky's major orchestral, choral and operatic works. The festival spans two LPO seasons, covering more than twenty concerts, and is curated by the Orchestra's Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor, Vladimir Jurowski. As part of the festival, and in pursuance of our long term commitment to commissioning new work from the world's outstanding composers, Anders Hillborg has been asked to write a work celebrating and remembering Igor Stravinsky and his place in the pantheon of the western classical tradition. The concert will also featuring Yuri Falik's Requiem for Stravinsky (1975), Stravinsky's own work Ode, and Beethoven's Violin Concerto performed by Gil Shaham. It is a classic piece of Jurowski programming, juxtaposing modernism with one of the enduring classics of the cannon. Anders Hillborg’s work will be cocommissioned with the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, USA.
