Kompositionsauftrag an Sergej Newski, Sanzhar Baiterekov und Aureliano Cattaneo

Collegium Novum Zürich, Switzerland

One of the key aims of Collegium Novum Zürich (CNZ) is promoting the creation of contemporary music by means of composition commissions – and in the 2019/20 season the CNZ is issuing commissions to Sergej Newski, Sanzhar Baiterekov and Aureliano Cattaneo, among others. Each new work is part of its own concert program and is dedicated to its overarching theme. With Nevsky this is observations / reflections, with Baiterekov creation and with Cattaneo Surreal.
When selecting the three composers, the following considerations played a special role: Sergej Newski turns in his new work to Pier Paolo Pasolini and thus to a political and critical artist whose ethos we identify with.
The CNZ would like to offer young composers a platform: Sanzhar Baiterekov stood out for the quality and originality of his work.
To Aureliano Cattaneo we dedicate a two-season focus which is to conclude with the premiere of a new work.
