Seven Composition Commissions

ACHT BRÜCKEN, Cologne, Germany

ACHT BRÜCKEN | Music for Cologne has been Cologne's annual festival for the "music of today" since 2011. For about 10 days a year in early May, Cologne becomes a festival city with concerts in the best concert halls and unusual venues. Under the banner of an extra-musical theme, international artists present premieres, key works spanning (musical) disciplines and interdisciplinary projects.

In 2022, the dual concept of "memory and amnesia" will run like a common thread throughout the festival program in all its breadth. From aspects of cultural memory, echo, intoxication, hypnosis and sleep to dementia and other neurological aspects, EIGHT BRIDGES shows how concert experiences can take place in a newly balanced field of tension caught between remembering and forgetting and likewise how composers can creatively work with both aspects. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is funding the composition commissions issued to Marcus Schmickler, Malika Kishino, Robert HP Platz, Peter Eötvös, Francesca Verunelli, Alexander Schubert and Beat Furrer, which will be premiered in Cologne in May 2022.

Due to the current situation and associated regulations, there may be changes at short notice. For the latest information on the project please therefore check achtbruecken.de
