TRUE MUSIC – Composition Commission issued to George Lewis

That there is more than one truth is an observation acquiring several new layers of meaning since the advent of digital media in global everyday life, each of which demands immediate and individual clarification. In an examination of the role here of photography in contemporary discourse, between assigning meaning and clarifying the frame of reference, the Sprengel Museum Hannover is showing TRUE PICTURES? Nordamerikanische Fotografie im digitalen Zeitalter (North American Photography in the Digital Age). The exhibition is accompanied by a concert series in Braunschweig, Wolfsburg and Hannover together with Das Neue Ensemble. The program includes a new composition by George Lewis, commissioned by Das Neue Ensemble and the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and sponsored by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
