MATA and Hong Kong New Music Ensemble

Music and the Anthology (MATA), New York City, US

MATA’s mission is to present, support, and commission the music of early-career composers. In this season MATA commissioned and is presenting large-scale works from two emerging composers: Jason Thorpe Buchanan and Lise Morrison. The works will be premiered by the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, who will work closely with both composers. Buchanan and Morrison will write for an octet consisting of flute, clarinet, piano, percussion, and string quartet. John Buchanan is an American composer and artistic director of the Switch Ensemble. Lise Morrison, currently based in the Netherlands is a South African composer. Founded in 2008, the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble (HKNME) is widely praised for its innovative programming, the Ensemble’s productions include concerts, educational outreach events, and interdisciplinary collaborations and research projects with artists from different artistic fields.
