Nachtmusik der Moderne

Münchener Kammerorchester, Munich, Germany

The “Nachtmusik der Moderne” (Night Music of/at the Modern) is an internationally acclaimed series focalizing modern and contemporary music. The special concept of this series is to dedicate an entire evening to the work of an individual composer and to portray them with their oeuvre from early to late works, from chamber music to the chamber orchestra repertoire. An integral part of the concert is an introductory talk in the Ernst von Siemens Auditorium with the composer or a close companion of many years’ standing. Three times a year, late on Saturday evening, the central rotunda of the Pinakothek der Moderne thus plays host to these intense monographic encounters. Prior to each event the MKO’s cooperation partner, Pinakothek der Moderne, builds a bridge to contemporary art by offering a night tour of works by contemporary artists, designers or architects. From the very outset, the musical series reflects the period of the works exhibited in the Pinakothek der Moderne – from around 1905 to the present day. With the support of the EvS Music Foundation the following composer portraits are planned for 2021: Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013), Chaya Czernowin (*1957), Bryce Dessner (*1976), Mieczyslaw Weinberg (1919-1996), Thomas Adès (*1971), Dieter Ammann (*1962), as well as a second edition of the Sofia Gubaidulina (*1931) composer portrait on the occasion of her 90th birthday in 2021.
