Premiere of Requiem für den unbekannten Verfolgten by Hans Heller

ACHAVA Festspiele Thüringen, Weimar, Germany

Since the end of the 1980s, so-called "outlawed music" – whose dissemination in the 20th century was prevented by the impact of National Socialism – has been academically researched and artistically reappraised. In recent years, undreamed-of musical treasures have been unearthed – numerous previously forgotten or completely unknown compositions, whose revivals and in some cases even premieres have enormously enriched German and international musical life.

To sustainably establish the name and work of Hans Heller (1898-1969), the German-Jewish composer's Requiem für den unbekannten Verfolgten (1964/65) will be premiered for mixed choir and large orchestra. At Erfurt Cathedral, the MDR Radio Choir and the MDR Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dennis Russell Davies, will present Heller's Requiem on September 23, 2021, as the opening concert of the ACHAVA Festival Thuringia 2021.
