Black Flesh

black page orchestra c/o moment collective – Verein für experimentelle Musik, audiovisuelle und performative Kunst, Vienna, Austria

The Black Page Orchestra is an ensemble for radical and uncompromising music of our day founded in Vienna in 2014. Its namesake was Frank Zappa’s composition the black page, a piece whose score made for a virtually black page due to the density of notes. Alongside this aesthetic approach the ensemble focuses on works which, in particular, artistically incorporate electronics, video and various current technologies as well as compositions that, thanks to their performative nature, extend far beyond the conventional classical concert situation. A willingness to experiment and a varied program are key to the collective’s approach.
As part of the Unsafe+Sounds Festival 2017 the ensemble will be presenting its latest program that is being supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. Alongside works by the younger generation of composers like Stefan Prins, Martin Schüttler, Nuno Fernandez Esquerra and Hanna Hartmann, Stockhausen’s Mikrophonie I will also feature as well as a performance by the pianist Marino Formenti.
