Composer in Residence: Hèctor Parra

L’Auditori, which opened its doors in March 1999, is the most recent musical space in Barcelona, and is home to the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, the Banda Municipal de Barcelona and to the Museu de la Música. In its role as a national institution, L’Auditori aims to present Catalonia and Barcelona to the world through its own musical programme, which is stable and integrative. The wide social reach of its programming is made complete by an educational service aimed at all publics, defending the accessibility to culture by leading the programme Apropa Cultura.
In it’s new music program named “Sampler Sèries” L’Auditori, committed to new music, has nominated Hèctor Parra as Resident Composer and Luis Codera Puzo as Invited Composer for the season 2015/2016. The program that is build in collaboration with the principal organisations in Barcelona dedicated to contemporary art, such as the MACBA, the CCCB, the Fundació Antoni Tàpies and the Fundació Joan Miró. The concerts take place in L’Auditori and also in all these different organisations in order to approach new audiences that feel attracted to other contemporary art expressions. For his international projection and recognition and for his successful career in Paris as composer in residence and professor at Ircam-Centre Pompidou, L’Auditori has nominated Hèctor Parra Composer in Residence. Despite his evident talent and his generous contribution to new music, he hasn’t yet been properly recognised in Barcelona, his hometown, and a big number of his works have never been premiered in Catalunya.
