Concert by the Ensemble intercontemporain

Pierre Boulez Saal / Barenboim-Said Akademie gGmbH, Berlin, Germany

Berlin will see the building of a new chamber music hall, the Pierre Boulez Hall. Adjacent to the Barenboim-Said Academy the hall will be built in the former storage building of the Unter den Linden State Opera. It is planned to open in March 2017. Founded by Pierre Boulez the “Ensemble intercontemporain”, under the baton of Matthias Pintscher, will christen the hall in its opening season with two concerts, also featuring music by Pierre Boulez in tribute to him. Dying in January 2016 at the age of 90, Boulez is among the most important musical figures of the last 70 years. His work has fundamentally changed the way music is composed, played and enjoyed.
Supported by the EvS Music Foundation the works for the two concerts to be held in June 2017 have also been selected with Pierre Boulez, his philosophy and his legacy in mind. The program will open with Matthias Pintscher’s work Mar’eh for violins and ensemble. It will be followed by Hermès V for an ensemble of 29 musicians by Philippe Schoeller before culminating in the highpoint of the evening, the performance of Pierre Boulez’ ... explosante-fixe ... for midi flute, 2 flutes, ensemble and live electronics.
